We Are Not Dead Yet!!!

If you think the blog is dead, you're dead wrong cause apparently we managed to live our way posting this nonsense! Or maybe we just woke up from the dead. BWAHAHAHAHA!

So is you're viewing this blog (like what you're doing right now), we would like to welcome you to the blog.

HELLO!

And if you happen to be a follower of this blog, and regularly checking out here, we would like to extend our apology for being in a comma for too long.

SORRY!

And if you're here because of the posters, you might want to find information regarding the club activities. So here goes;

  1. Due to the much welcomed and relaxing swine flu break, the scrabble and boggles challenge has been postponed to an unknown date. The president told me we might be doing one either at the end of this week (wtf?) or anytime during the holy month of Ramadan - so that we can cut the cost for food and spend it elsewhere. teehee...
  2. The ACELS sketch competition offers a lot of cash to the winners. I don't know the exact date for the competition.
  3. For all the facebook junkies out there, we have the ACELS facebook group. You can get to know/ flirt with other members, have a pointless chatter in our discussion board or simply marvel at our addiction towards this web community site. Come, check it out!
  4. I have no idea regarding the Langkawi trip.
  5. I have nothing else to say.
That's all there is to it i guess. Bye bye!

The Boycott Campaign Goes Cyber!

Due to the questionable responses from the campus populace and the general feel that the club should look good if we try to be a tad bit political, the ACELS team have decided to continue preaching its campaign against US products in cyberspace.

So, we post these pictures;

So if you have purchased any of these products, make sure it was the last. Support our ailing brothers and sisters in Palestine. Support the Palestinian cause!

ACELS@Mushroom + AGM

Last Wednesday ACELS held the acels@mushroom program at Mushroom from 8:30pm.

The Palestine awareness program, the Boycott US Products campaign and the Gaza donation drive was a success, with many students actually stayed and filled less than half of the 20 chairs prepared to look at the highly charged emotional slides and donated a overwhelming sum of money into the donation box. The donation box was checked by the vp1 and was taught to be - in a thorough 10 minutes examination - to be around the RM300 range.
The membership drive was excellent. With the club did an outstanding job in attracting a paltry 5 new members to the club.

Some of the pictures from the program that i feel necessary to upload.

The donation drive.

The rear view of the president and his vice president looking impressed with the boycott slides.

The people who stayed to get their pictures taken.
"Thank you all for the donation money. We love you!"

The chairs were half empty because many people opted to stand instead.

The walking donation box finds its way at the eatery behind Mushroom. We were willing to get THAT far. Or maybe it was only Shrek.

We, the ACELS team would like to say thank you to Shrek for making it look easy in helping us with the donation drive and of course to the viewers and people at Mushroom for donating their money for the greater cause. Also to the 5 good people who registered with us that day and not to forget, those who saw the full 5 minutes of the Palestine movie clip.

Now lets talk about the AGM.

The AGM is on this coming Tuesday, 8:30pm at LT5. further details can be read in the poster.

Indeed we're using a recycled poster - if you noticed the design. Expect more of the same coming this year until we found some cool looking designs that we can edit from.
Registration for new members is RM5/sem. Bring along your friends so that we won't be holding a "ghost" AGM. haha!
Oh, and to those who wants to register electronically, send an email to acelsuitm@gmail.com.
And to those with facebook, join us at the ACELS group.
Thank you.

ACELS Say NO to Coca-Cola. Wanna Know Why?

Hello ppl!

Due to the recent event of the "organised mass massacre" by the bloody Zionist regime towards our friends in Palestine, ACELS will not just stay quite. We feel obliged to at least put even a tiny tad of effort in spreading related information, news, etc to the people of the Arau Campus.

So this coming Wednesday - 14th of January at 8:30pm - ACELS will hold the ACELS@MUSHROOM program where there'll be a talk by the president of ACELS himself on boycotting the consumption of US produce and also the Palestine Awareness campaign.

Apart from that, we too will set up a registration counter and do a ACELS promo for our membership drive. The promo poster for this Wednesday's event;

So bring along your friends and come join us this Wednesday!

This is the ACELS Blog

I think this blog needs a proper introduction.

First of all, ACELS is the acronym for the Arau Campus English Language Society. The purpose of this blog is so that we can update everyone involved with this club on club meetings, activities, discussions, etc. This blog too is made to document the club's progress (if any) and provide a platform for ACELS members to express their views on whatever topics posted, or even contribute to it apart from strenghtening the bond between the club members and the committee board.

There is no specific theme to what you can post over here - if you want to contribute to this site. Anything can be posted as long as the language medium is English since the club itself is a English club. You can do so by posting your work to acelsuitm@gmail.com and we'll upload it up to this blog. And remember to put your name so that we can credit you to it.

Sorry for being cheesy but this must be done.

Good day all and a happy (advance) new year!

The Annual General Meeting

Last night we held the ACELS AGM. Not particularly a strong number was present for the AGM, but 30 is a good number to start i suppose. Thank you to those who came last night, i do sure hope that a fruitful partnership can be made between us.

For the AGM, five activities for this semester was announced together with two suggested activities. The activities announced were :

1 - Karnival Gegar UiTM.

The carnival will be on the 1st till 3rd of august this year. Our booth will be a 20X20 and we will sell sweaters, t-shirts and crisps. We will also open up an information counter for Herbalife health product. Apart from that, we will also do a scrabbles and boggles demonstration whereby we are hoping for everyone, the members in particular to come and join us manning and playing scrabbles and boggles together at our booth.

2 - Gathering

It was decided that to strengthen the bond between members, a gathering should be made. A few places were suggested. Coffee Bean, Starbucks, Secret Recipe and bowling were just some of the places suggested. Alor Setar sounds a logical choice. The date for the gathering could be anytime before Ramadhan. Any other suggestions please do so by posting them in the web forum at http://s4.invisionfree.com/acels .

3 - T-Shirts

We all wear shirts, and to recognise some of the ACELS members we hope to have our very own t-shirt for this semester. It was still undecided about the design. We will consult Mr Bad about this matter. As again, any suggestions for the t-shirt please post it at the web forum.

4 - ACELS Day

We are proposing for the Mushroom to be made ours on either one of the two days of any weekend. Activities suggested during the AGM were public speaking, spelling bee, English exhibition, scrabbles competition and essay writing competition.

5 - Web log and web forum

You are currently viewing the blog. You too can view the ACELS web forum at the url given earlier. The colour for the web forum was decided by members to be black. We'll try our best to change the design.

The activities suggested by the members were :

1 - Trip

A night stay trip was the idea but we're not ruling out a day trip. Suggested places to have our trip are Langkawi, Bukit Merah, Pangkor, Pulau Pinang and Padang Besar. The Board of Directors however might favour a visit to the other UiTM campus for an educational or if we have other English Clubs there, we can make a sisterhood visit to those campus. Money is the name of the game here, but we're carefully considering this because no one hates going to a trip.

2 - Outdoor activities

Jungle trekking, flying fox and rock climbing were the suggested activities with UUM being the venue of choice. We can make an educational visit to UUM as well, think of it as a2 in 1 activity.

So i guess that's all for now. We do hope that you can post your thoughts and get along with the others in our web forum. To those who came for the AGM, thank you very much, and to those who wants to register with us, please do so by sending us an email to acelsuitm@gmail.com or text us at 013-4059047. Registration is open all semester. Again, thank you very much for viewing our blog.

We Are ACELS

Hi everyone. Thank you for visiting the ACELS weblog.

If my memory serves me right, we are only the second club in the Arau Campus to have its own blog after IMAM. Here we will keep everyone concerned with the club on updates and news related to ACELS.

Apart from that, there’s a link to our web forum on the “Links” segment on your right hand side. The web forum will be our heart beat where anyone from our campus registered to the forum can interact with each other and exchange ideas or even gossips. There’s even a forum created for you to learn on how to score in BEL papers and the MUET examination. That said, our BEL lecturers too will take part in the forum.

For the time being, hopefully everyone has no problem using this blog, with the all text header and the blog design which is already a blogspot template with no special designs. We’re looking to develop this blog over time and hopefully we can add in things that can make the blog look prettier perhaps? (blame it on the poor wifi).
As for updates, our first for this semester is the ACELS Annual General Meeting. Details are as below.

The annual fee is RM 10. Bring along you friends to the AGM ok?

See you there!
